Every year, school brings us on trips all around Asia and Oceania (in middle school the trips are in May, where I went to Lijiang last school term, and in high school they’re in November). Myanmar and Laos caught my eye almost immediately, as I love interacting with children, and “locals” with different cultures. I decided to go with Myanmar as my first choice, and lucky me got it.

Obviously, especially with more of my friends knowing about this little business behind me I run, it would make sense to squeeze out the “first world” things on the trip (oxymoron, but it was a cool experience on both ends).
The school first booked us on a roundtrip from Yangon Airport, a route run on Dragonair’s A321. It was my first time on a PTV-equipped narrowbody, which was rather exciting.

For our flight to Bagan the school booked us on Yangon Airways, an airline that operates three ATR 72s within Myanmar. Both flights were on ATR 72-212s, another fresh experience for me, as I had never flown a turboprop before in my (rather short) life.

My itinerary was as follows:
14/11 KA 252 HKG – RGN 22:20 – 00:15 321 Y
16/11 YH 917 RGN – NYU 06:10 – 07:30 AT7 Y
20/11 YH 910 NYU – RGN 08:25 – 09:45 AT7 Y
21/11 KA 251 RGN – HKG 01:10 – 05:25 321 Y
Not the most flights, but I’m flying more in these coming months, so not a problem. 😉
In terms of hotels, the school went with the hotel used on previous trips. For our first two nights in Yangon, the school booked a rather historically rich hotel (which I’ll talk about in the report) for about HK$1000 (US$130), called the Inya Lake Hotel. The hotel had a pretty good location, right next to (duh) Inya Lake.

For our four nights in Bagan, the school booked us into the Hotel Umbra, which was a recently renovated upscale hotel near the city center. The hotel redirects to Agoda for booking, and the hotel seems to be selling for ~HK$750, though I’ve seen rates reach HK$1,700, so I’m not sure which one we got.

We had a morning flight back from Bagan, so we spent the morning sightseeing. Our few hours were booked into the Myanmar Life hotel, a hotel I was expecting to see more of when talking about CAS trips.
