We arrived at the Airport Express at about half eight in the morning, since we knew the immigration line wouldn’t be long. We checked in, and the check-in agent informed us that we had access to the THAI lounge near gate 40, and upon asking we were also entitled to Singapore SilverKris and the United Club lounge access.

We got to the airport and through immigration in no time, and soon I was off to the SilverKris Lounge, which is located near gate 15. The lounge had been renovated not long ago, so I was curious how the new lounge would be like.

There was a little mosaic display by the entrance which I found pretty beautiful.

The agent promptly let me in, and upon asking told me that I would have access to the THAI Royal Orchid lounge after my visit there (as my parents were shopping and said that I could check out the lounge for a while, as I would be on my phone replying messages anyway either way).

I’ve read negative reviews of the old lounge (none of the new SilverKris lounge yet), which include:

No showers/toilets (I had been told that this issue was resolved)
Lack of natural light (that can’t be changed, as the lounge is still in the same spot)

The lounge featured a few small seating areas, then a big area partitioned into a few smaller parts with a buffet spread near the entrance.

All the smaller rooms were located along a hallway to the bigger room, which had a sakura tree (presumably because of the festive season) and lots of minimalistic art, which I loved.

I didn’t need the shower room at all, but I wanted to check it out given that there aren’t any pictures of it yet, so I did.

The shower itself featured a rainshower head, three “massage” showerheads and amenities of an unnamed brand.

There’s also a disabled shower room, which looked pretty nice and was decorated as well as possible.

The First Class lounge was located to the left of the main room, but I didn’t have access to it.

The lounge was stunning, and I thought they definitely did more than they’d ever done with it. It was modern, minimalist and definitely in mint condition, and most of all, it looked mostly empty, which was a joy. There were two people in the lounge, both at the very end of the lounge.

While the lounge still didn’t feature views of the tarmac, I felt like the lighting options were perfect for the lounge, and they did what they could to make the ambiance soothing and relaxing.

The lounge featured a variety of seating, including pod-style seats, normal armchairs, tall backed sofas and a few sofas by the end of the lounge.

The lounge felt very clean and organised, with all pieces of furniture neatly in place.

After being greeted by the flight attendant and granted permission to take a few photos, I sat down in one of the pod seats, and as I wasn’t hungry, I started working. The pods are equipped with a reading light, universal power plugs and a pillow (power plug for humans…?).

Apart from power plugs, there were also holes in the wall that now I see the photos looked like USB plugs, but I didn’t need them since I had my computer anyway.

While I was working, I heard a loud snore in another of the pod seats. Then another, softer snore on the sofa. They were incredulously annoying, and made my stay in the lounge slightly less pleasant.

Briefly before I left the lounge to meet my mother at the THAI Airways lounge I checked out the food spread, which looked pretty good. All items seemed fresh, but I only grabbed a bottle of water and ran for the THAI lounge, as it just came to me that I had two minutes to get from gate 15 (where the lounge was located) to gate 40 (where the THAI lounge was located, right outside our gate).

There was also a coffee machine, though I never had the chance to use it.

From there it was a run to gate 40, and unpleasantly, I realized just how big the airport was…

Bottom line on the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge

Especially considered that the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge was one of the worst lounges in the airport prior to its renovation, I think that the airline did as much as they could to create a much more pleasant lounge experience. I’m hella impressed with the updates, and if travelling on Star Alliance premium cabins, this lounge will definitely be my go-to lounge (maybe after I check out the United Club, but let’s wait for that).
