Review: Lufthansa Senator Lounge, London Heathrow (LHR)

Review Overview
THE ALVIATOR'S VERDICT

This lounge is overall nicer than I was expecting, and quieter than the main business class lounge. However, I really don't like the food offering at the two Lufthansa lounges, especially during breakfast time

4.0

In February 2026, I had the chance to visit the Lufthansa Senator lounge at Heathrow Airport. Lufthansa has two lounges at Heathrow Airport, and the Senator lounge is a “lounge within a lounge” – the entrance is inside the business class lounge, and has more stringent access requirements.

The main advantage of the Senator lounge is that it’s quieter compared to the business class lounge, and has marginally nicer decor. Otherwise, the Senator lounge doesn’t feature any unique facilities that the business class lounge doesn’t have – even the food and beverage offering is largely identical. That being said, I find that Lufthansa’s two lounges at Heathrow are some of their more impressive outstation lounges, and I prefer them to any of Lufthansa’s hub lounges at their home in Frankfurt.

Lufthansa Senator Lounge London Heathrow Access and Entry Requirements

The Lufthansa Senator lounge is open from 5 AM to 10 PM, covering all Star Alliance departures from Heathrow’s Terminal 2. Access to the Senator lounge is open to:

  • Star Alliance first class passengers (this includes Lufthansa Group flights, including if you’re connecting same day)
  • HON Circle and Senator members travelling on a Lufthansa Group flight, including Eurowings
  • Star Alliance Gold members departing on a Star Alliance flight
  • United, Air Canada, and ANA Star Gold members travelling on Eurowings
  • If you’re flying a Lufthansa Group flight in business class, you can visit the Senator lounge with an AmEx Platinum card (this doesn’t apply if you’re flying another Star Alliance carrier, though you can access the business class lounge regardless of AmEx cardholder membership)

The business class lounge has separate entry requirements. I accessed the lounge as I was flying Swiss business class to Zurich, and hold an AmEx Platinum card.

Lufthansa Senator Lounge London Heathrow Location and Entrance

The Lufthansa lounge is located after security at Heathrow’s Terminal 2, and is hard to miss. Signage is better at Heathrow T2 than any other terminal at the airport (in my opinion), and it’s fairly easy to find Lounge A1, where the Lufthansa lounge is located. Just don’t go down the escalators into the main terminal, as the lounge is located on the upper floor where security is located.

When you check in, the agent will hand you a slip with a QR code if you have access to the Senator lounge. You need to bring your AmEx Platinum card if that’s the means to which you’re getting in – paying with an AmEx Platinum card won’t cut it, and the card needs to be in your name.

Once you have your slip with your QR code, head to the back of the business class lounge, where you’ll see a separate entrance to the Senator lounge. Scan your QR code at the entrance to open the doors into the lounge.

While there isn’t anyone patrolling the automatic doors, the lounge itself isn’t a huge size, and there are staff serving the Senator lounge. So you wouldn’t be able to tailgate someone leaving the lounge, for example.

Lufthansa Senator Lounge London Heathrow Seating and Atmosphere

The Lufthansa Senator lounge is a smaller space than the main business lounge outside, though it’s still a fairly sizeable space for the number of people who have access. I found it to be a slickly designed area that featured a couple more interesting motifs compared to the business class lounge.

The lounge itself is one approximately rectangular room with partitions.

By the entrance you’ll be able to find a button-tufted booth and some restaurant-style seating and tables. The booths are a handsome dark green, a colour you won’t be able to find outside in the main lounge.

Close to that area, you’ll find some high-top seating as well.

Once you move further into the lounge, you’ll find some of Lufthansa’s signature brown and beige armchairs, with some cool arched lighting fixtures. The difference here is the huge backlit forest wall at the back – believe it or not, tacky as it was, I actually found that wall to give the space some character.

Outside of that area and closer to the food spread, you’ll also find some communal tables.

While the business lounge featured a cute guestbook setup, the Senator lounge has its own dedicated guestbook as well.

Much like in the main lounge, there’s also a fun variety of seating. For example, near the back of the lounge, there were some daybeds. As with the daybeds in the business class lounge these didn’t look super comfortable for long stays, though could be a good option to recline for a bit.

Then tucked away in the corner were some workstations with high partitions, complete with L-shaped tables. I would’ve loved settling into one of these pods to get some work done, and they were quite well-lit as well.

WiFi was free, and fast – it measured 26.5 Mbps down and 15.2 Mbps up. That’s not lightning fast, though would do the trick for a lot of light work.

Overall, much like the business class lounge, I was impressed by the variety of seating available here. The Senator Lounge also didn’t get particularly crowded throughout my stay, despite the fact that I was leaving over the morning rush out of Heathrow T2.

Lufthansa Senator Lounge London Heathrow Business Centre

If you need to get some more work done with a more formal setup, the Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Heathrow Airport has a dedicated business centre, with some proper workstations where you can get some work done.

As with the business class lounge, there’s an impressive work setup here for anyone looking to get work done, which probably is a good indicator of the traveller demographic between London Heathrow and many Lufthansa/Swiss destinations.

Lufthansa Senator Lounge London Heathrow Food and Beverage

Much like the main business class lounge, the Lufthansa Senator lounge has a great array of seats to work and relax, though the food spread is much less exciting. At the Senator lounge, the food spread is tucked away to the right wall of the lounge.

I was around over breakfast, so can’t speak for the food selection over the rest of the day – from other reviews it looks better, though still not particularly inspiring. Hot options included porridge, mini pancakes, bacon, baked beans, potatoes, and eggs.

Cold options included yoghurt, fruit, and a booster juice shot, as well as granola and cereal.

There isn’t any barista coffee here – if you’d like barista coffee, you need to head through to one of the other Star Alliance lounges by the B-gates. Instead, there’s a coffee machine, and there’s a selection of other drinks, wines, and German beers to choose from as well.

The one thing that did make this lounge stand out from the business class lounge was a self-serve bloody mary station. I didn’t avail myself as I visited early in the morning, though you can make your own bloody mary, complete with an olive and a celery stick. Sadly, there’s no tended bar or any unique drinks beyond this.

Overall, I didn’t find the breakfast spread to be particularly inspiring. I appreciated that there were booster juice shots available, though there are lounges with much better breakfast food selections out there, even within the same terminal.

Conclusion: Lufthansa Senator Lounge London Heathrow

The Lufthansa Senator lounge is a well-appointed, beautiful space with an impressive variety of seating. While the design elements feel very Lufthansa-centric (not something I typically celebrate), I like the varied seating, and think the quirks in decor bring some pizzazz to the lounge. There’s a particular focus on well set up workstations, which I’m a fan of; the Senator lounge is also consistently much more quiet than the main business class lounge outside.

However, in my opinion, the lounge doesn’t fare well on food and beverages. Sadly I’m not a fan of the limited selection available (especially during breakfast time), and there’s no barista coffee or tended bar to supplement the lounge’s mediocre offering. It’s also worth noting that the lounge overall lacks showers, which some may value.

I’d generally recommend checking out some of the other Star Alliance lounges at the airport, unless you’re pressed on time or just want to get some work done. However, if you have access and are keen to stay by the A-gates, the Senator lounge is a pleasant place to spend some time, and doesn’t get as crowded as the main lounge during peak hours.
