RIP Cathay Pacific 747

Last Saturday I wrote about Cathay Pacific retiring their 747s. While I’m sad to see them go, it’s beneficial both to the airline and 90% of passengers – their economy seats were crap, their business class seats were unpopular and the fuel efficiency was down in the dumps.

I’d argue that business class isn’t as bad as people say they is, but economy truly was – especially compared to Cathay Pacific’s two newer seats in the sky.

Well, yesterday morning at 10 AM, it looks like Cathay Pacific flew their flight as CX8747 one last time through Victoria Harbour. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take part in the photo-taking as I was busy at a meeting, though here’s a cool video of it pushing back:

It looks like they had quite a bit of fun on the flight too, though I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that I won’t be seeing these ever again.

Bottom Line

Overall Cathay Pacific getting rid of the 747 means increased cabin comfort and increased profit for Cathay Pacific, though I am really sad that I won’t be seeing these ever again. It’s time to get myself onto a Cathay Pacific A340 before those disappear into the wild as well.
