We got off the plane at about 11:50AM, and made our way onto one of the buses heading to the domestic terminal.

We got off, and followed the “International Transfers” sign to the international terminal, to the baggage claim area (okay, to sum it up, we were bussed to the domestic terminal and walked back to the international terminal).

Baggage Carousel Kunming Airport

We walked along the left side of the baggage carousel, and reached the door where it said “International Transfers”. We turned in, where there were a bunch of check-in counters, but we had our boarding passes printed to Hong Kong already.

The tunnel brought us to the departures hall, which was bright and spacious.

Past the departures hall we followed the normal immigration steps, which included waiting for half an hour at the normal Chinese immigration line.

We made our way to gate 69 where our plane was parked and would be departing.

I bought a smoothie and made my way onboard for my last leg on China Eastern. I was really pumped about the prospect of getting home…

Bottom line on Kunming Airport’s transit experience

If there’s one thing missing, it’s onboard immigration.

Otherwise I guess Kunming Airport transit is pretty sensible, and it wouldn’t stop me from connecting at Kunming Airport in the future.

  1. Hey Alvin!

You’ve got a nice blog so far. I think you really serve a niche audience. Keep up the good work and expand! Would love to see more English produced resources of traveling around greater China.

    Check out my instagram @jskowal

I’m off to a start too.

    Best,
