As y’all know, I’m still at school, and every year our school runs a “Creativity, Action, Service Week” where we go off on school trips for creativity, action and service (I’ll leave those explanations for my academics, though you can have a look at the idea in general here). Most of us just take this as an excuse to call it a normal tour trip out with friends as far as we’re concerned, as that’s basically what it is.
Last year I went to Kaohsiung, where I spent time in Kaohsiung, Tainan and Kenting near the fields and scenery. This year, out of a hiking tour to Guilin, an athletic tour to Kota Kinabalu and a biking trip to Lijiang, I chose the latter (obviously that’s because it’s the best tour out of the three…right?). I’ll be reporting about biking in this trip report given just how surreal it was.

Much like last year I’ll eke out a trip report regarding the “first world things” given the opportunity and leave the actual experience to my school assignments.
The school paid cash on China Eastern for both our flights, as it was the most direct way to get there. There were no nonstop flights, so we took a stop in Kunming both ways.

This came to a total of ~HK$2000, which was reasonable given what we got.

In the end the itinerary looked like this:
10/5 MU 734 HKG – KMG 737 Y
10/5 MU 734 KMG – LJG 737 Y
15/5 MU 733 LJG – KMG 737 Y
15/5 MU 733 KMG – HKG 737 Y

I was also able to credit my miles to SkyPass, which I was happy with.
In terms of hotels, the school booked us in the Jinhong Garden Villa in Lijiang, which they described was in “the traditional Naxi courtyard style”. It looks like it was only HK$200/night, but I’m not sure what the school paid.

I’ll be covering the biking trip as well, so the trip report will be pretty interesting for all of us. Stay tuned!
