How to credit miles to SkyPass

As y’all know, I flew a roundtrip on Korean Air in business class back in April from Hong Kong to Seoul, and both flights exceeded my expectations.

I signed up for Korean Air SkyPass on the flight back, and I don’t think I regret it.

I’ll start off with why as a Hong Konger I’d apply for Korean Air SkyPass, as it kind of seems illogical, given that I wouldn’t be flying them that often unless I was going to Korea or transiting through.

  • Korean Air flies to both Busan and Seoul with rather cheap fares originating from Hong Kong. A roundtrip costs ~HK$7,900, which you get nearly 2.5 times of for Cathay Pacific flights.

  • The destinations you can redeem with SkyPass miles are equally many, and the amount of airlines is huge too

You can’t redeem first class on most of these airlines using other services, while Korean Air technically releases two seats for first class on all of these airlines.

Meanwhile in business class, 7-9 seats can be released, making my whole family happy (Cathay Pacific technically only releases two).

Even Busan releases four seats, and they have eight seats in total in business class on their 737-900.

So how do you claim your mileage?

Since I signed up on the Seoul to Hong Kong flight, those miles were automatically credited to my newly minted account.

I couldn’t find a quick way to have my outbound mileage credited to my account as well, so I tweeted @KoreanAir_KE, and after DMing my ticket number, they immediately credited my outbound flight mileage literally two minutes after I sent a request.

If you want to credit a Korean Air flight to your SkyPass account, send a direct message to @KoreanAir_KE and they’ll get it sorted for you.

I recently took China Eastern from Hong Kong to Kunming to Lijiang roundtrip, and they actually exceeded my expectations (I won’t be posting my initial impressions as there were VPN issues and when I sorted them out I didn’t even bother).

I was booked on an “S” fare, which meant 50% of mileage would be credited to my Korean Air SkyPass account. Korean Air tweeted that they could not help me this time, and I had to personally fill out a form and bring it to the local Korean Air office.

I didn’t really have the time to do that (okay, yes I did, but this is airline mileage, not someone’s drugging issues).

I still filled out the form, then called Korean Air’s Hong Kong office (+852 2366 2001) to ask if I had to bring the form over. They said that I could email it to them.

I scanned them my boarding pass as well per their instructions.

I then attached both the form and the pass to an email to engskypass@koreanair.com, and am now waiting for my mileage.

If it comes through, woohoo!

But if it doesn’t…
